South Beach Diet
Being healthy is at the head of everyone’s list these days, and by taking on the South Beach Diet, you can be on your way to living a healthier life. The three phase diet, created by respected cardiologist, Dr. Arthur Agatston, is much more than a weight reducing activity; rather, it is a way of life, one that encourages you to adopt a simple yet effective way of being fit.
South Beach Diet Phase 1 is arguably the most difficult of the three phases as it is the most restrictive. This phase centers in on lean meats, such as turkey, fish, and chicken. Though carbohydrates are essentially forbidden at this point, vegetables that are on the low glycemic index are acceptable, as are eggs, nuts, and cheese.
The reason that carbohydrates are not allowed is that they actually make you hungrier, even if you have just eaten a meal. The natural result of this is overeating which puts on the pounds in an hurry. With the first phase of the South Beach Diet, you will be eating right without that urge to eat more than your body really needs. Thus, you will lose up to 13 pounds in just two weeks.
During the South Beach Diet Phase 2, some of the forbidden food from the first phase is no longer banned. You’ll be in this phase until you reach your desired weight, losing a pound or two per week in a safe progression towards being a healthier you.
The goal of this stage is handle your weight loss in an effective manner that gives you visible results in thinner thighs and hips, as well as a noticeable reduction in your stomach. At the same time, the diet is setting you up to live a life free of calorie counting and worrying about food portion sizes.
This method is not about starving, either. In fact, you get three meals a day plus two snacks. Neither is the diet focused on depriving you. Rather, your meals are normal in size, and your choices are flexible which allows you to eat what you desire on any given day. This includes enjoying some delightful Chocolate Sponge Cake, if you want.
South Beach Diet Phase 3 is the final phase, and it lasts for life. When you reach this phase, it means you have changed your way of life and are no longer including the bad carbohydrates and fats in your eating choices.
Considered the maintenance phase, this involves simply making smart choices and eating a more balanced meal without craving the bad foods.
